| Bio: | About You Name: Ptera Email: ptera.hitw@gmail.com AIM name: tehpuckzilla Timezone: Pacific (GMT -7/8 depending on DST) RP Experience: Did you read the rules? Yes! About The Character QUICK ANSWERS Name: Melody Koenig Journal: to be created Graduation Year: 2014 School Activities: Swimming, Orchestra, Dance Class Schedule: Honors Math, Biology, and Social Studies. Regular English/Literature. Orchestra and Robotics during Enrichment. Home Ec, French III, Art and one study hall. (I’ll add specifics in a bit) After School Job: Cashier at Carlotta’s Corner gift shop Sexuality: Heterosexual Birthday & Other Important Dates: DOB: March 18th, 1996 (15 yo) Supernatural Ability: Power negation: Ability to cancel the superpowers of others, Level 3 LONG ANSWERS Appearance: Melody is medium-height and thin, mostly due to her rigorous swimming regimen, not because she doesn’t eat. Her features are a little sharp, but she’s happy with her appearance for the most part. Her hair is sort of a dirty blonde, so she dyes it and always makes sure to wear a swimming cap in the pool so it doesn’t turn green (that week in eighth grade was no fun at all). Melody uses a little bit of make up, but not much and she hates wearing mascara, even though her light-colored lashes look way better if she does. Played-By: Dakota Fanning Likes & Dislikes: Likes: Strawberry rhubarb pie, her older brother Terry, iguanas, glitter, dark comedy, (Jacob Ben Israel, shh!), playing percussion in Orchestra (the timpani is her favorite), the words “pincers” and “sassy” Dislikes: mean people, having to shave for swimming, applesauce (it’s the texture), English class Strengths & Weaknesses: Strengths: Melody is pretty good at school and she likes it for the most part, except for English class (because she’s kind of a slow reader and how the heck does the teacher know what the author was thinking, anyway?). She’s fairly good at making up her own mind about things and doesn’t let other people’s words get to her. Weaknesses: On the other hand, Melody has a hard time expressing her opinions. She comes off as either abrasive or passive, neither of which she really is. She also has an obsessive weakness for all things celebrity (inside and outside the halls of McKinley) and follows JBI’s blog religiously (his hair is so mesmerizing!) Personality: Stoic and quiet, Melody tends to blend into the background sometimes. She has a few close friends, but is by no means popular. In fact, she likes to eavesdrop on other people’s conversations because they’re always so much more interesting than her own. Melody was in and out of the hospital as a baby (she had a hole in her heart), but worked really hard once she was recovered to become one of the better athletes on the swim team. She’s not quick to anger, but tends to hold onto grudges for much longer than necessary (she’s still upset with her cousin Darla for The Barbie Incident of 2004). Melody has never had a boyfriend, and she’s practical enough to know it’s not going to be like in the movies or in the books that she Relationships: Friends: Melody has a few friends from the Swim team and a sort of student/mentor relationship with George Jacobs, the lead Jazz band percussionist (if that’s okay that I named the guy Finn always steals the drums from?) Terry: Is her older brother. He graduated last May and left for college at OSU, majoring in chemical engineering, which sounds either really cool or really lame. Melody looks up to Terry a lot and he was always really nice about keeping her company in the hospital or after school whenever she was recovering. He was also the one who started taking her to the pool, first on his bike and then in his car when he turned sixteen. Melody’s parents didn’t know about all this because they kept telling her to wait and make sure her heart could handle the stress before taking up any sports. Terry was her partner in crime. Mitchell and Penny (parents): Melody’s parents are fine, if a little overprotective. She doesn’t mind spending time with them, but sometimes they get on her nerves and she’s sure she’d be a much more interesting person if they weren’t worrying about her all the time. Extended family: All of Melody’s (still-living) grandparents live in the Lima area, along with her uncle Jack (Mitch’s brother) and his family (wife Fern, sons Jack Jr. and Nelson, daughters Darla and Patricia). Penny’s two siblings (Oliver, Troy and Mathilda) all moved away, but come back to Lima with their spouses and children for holidays and other special events. Jacob Ben Israel: Melody can’t really explain it - maybe it’s the brains, maybe it’s the hair, maybe it’s the voice - but she has the biggest crush on JBI and religiously follows not only his blog, but also his various twitter accounts and YouTube channels. He’s her source of truth in these weird times. Background: Mitchell Koenig and Penny Rasmussen met in junior college, even though they both grew up in Lima. Mitch was never very ambitious and even though he was a good athlete, never pushed himself to get that baseball scholarship to a big university. Penny came from a more well-to-do family, but was a bit of a wild-child and just went to junior college to piss of her parents. They both studied accounting (Mitch because it was what he was good at and Penny because it was either that or nursing and blood sort of freaked her out). They fell in love and married shortly after graduation, choosing to stay in Lima after they both found jobs at Mitch’s dad’s accounting firm. The birth of their first child, Terence (Terry) Koenig made both of their priorities change. Penny settled down and Mitch stepped up to become a good provider and father. Melody was born three years later in Lima, but spent a lot of her early childhood in bigger cities (especially Toledo and Dayton) with children’s hospitals because of her heart. She doesn’t remember too much about that time, because by the time she was five, the surgeries were over and she’d begun to get stronger and stronger, despite the way her parents worried about her. Because of her medical costs, Melody’s family always had to watch every penny they spent, so she didn’t get to go on vacations like her friends (other than that one time her Grandma Rassmusen took Melody and Terry to Disney World, which is still probably the greatest few days of Melody’s life). In elementary school, Melody discovered the drums, but her parents hated the noise, so they steered her toward easier to listen to alternatives like xylophone. During middle school, Melody talked her way into joining the orchestra, instead of the band, because she kind of hates how brass instruments like trumpets and tubas sound. Plus, the orchestra kids were nicer and with her around, they got to do exciting symphony pieces, the big rolling sound of Melody’s timpani backing them up. It was also during middle school that Melody worked up the courage to join the swim team. She had Terry forge their father’s signature on the permission slip, because there was no way her parents were going to let her go out for a sport “in her condition” even though the doctors said she was fine. By the time the first meet rolled around, Melody was one of the better swimmers on the team and brought home two second place medals - which eventually convinced her parents to let her stay on the team. Melody made a couple of friends on the team who joined dance (ballet, jazz, etc) during the off-season freshman year. Thinking it sounded fun, Melody joined too and while she’s not very good yet, she’s improving quickly - she might even get to dance en pointe sometime next year. Plot Intentions: Melody’s power will really influence what plots she ends up involved in, but I’d also kind of like her to discover hacking as a pass time and maybe even get caught by the authorities! I'm going to need your help plotting because without other "supers" to interact with, Melody will have no idea she has a power! I’d also like her to make friends or enemies with some player characters... SAMPLES Sample Journal Entry: So, tonight’s swim meet was not one of my best. There was this girl from Carmel that has to be on steroids or secretly a boy or something. Harvey doesn’t look so good today, either. I might have to take him to the vet. I hope it’s just that he’s getting ready to molt and that he doesn’t have iguana cancer or something. Maybe he just wants a new species of cricket to eat. I know I’d get bored eating Froot Loops every single day. It might take a week or two, but eventually I’d get sick of them, I’m sure. Gotta have my twice-yearly check-up tomorrow. There hasn’t been a hole in my heart for ten years and I still have to go to stupid Dr. Finklestein to get checked out. If I hadn’t gotten sick this summer, I’m sure I could talk my parents out of making me go. I wish I could get a different doctor. Finklestein still thinks that lollipops are cool, and sometimes he gives me the creeps. I wonder if my mom would let me ask for a girl doctor instead. Sample Third Person RP: Melody knew she shouldn’t have done it, but ever since Leslie overheard those seniors talking about meeting out at the abandoned hospital, she couldn’t help but want to go see what was going on for herself. She left an anonymous tip on Jacob’s blog (not being brave enough to use her own name or IP address) and then she and Leslie got Melody’s older cousin JJ to drive them there. “I don’t know about just leaving you here,” JJ called after them as Melody and Leslie hopped out of the car. “What if something bad happens to you guys? Uncle Mitch’ll never forgive me.” Rolling her eyes, Melody assured her cousin, “Nothing’s going to happen. Les and I both have our phones. We’ll call you in a little while to come pick us up, okay?” JJ thought about this for a minute before parking his car a few feet ahead on the side of the road and insisting, “I’m coming with you.” “Buzzkill,” Melody said to Leslie under her breath, getting the other girl to laugh. Knowing neither one of her companions would lead the way, Melody took the front, hiking toward the hospital and trying not to be seen. Just outside, it looked like there was a boy covered head-to-toe in dark clothes, a hoodie up over his head. Oh, what if the seniors were devil worshipers or something? How cool would that be? What if devil worship was the reason everything around town was going crazy? Melody and her friends had been at the Homecoming dance when the gym went up in flames for no apparent reason and saw that one senior get struck by lightning when she had to get her swim bag out of JJ’s car. No, that was silly. Devil worship wasn’t behind this. It was global warming or something. It had to be. Other Samples: Puckzilla! | ||||||||||
